The U.K. stock market ended on a positive note on Friday, with the FTSE 100 Index showing a slight gain. The index increased by 0.04% to reach 7,461.93.

Top Gainers

Among the companies listed in the FTSE 100, Flutter Entertainment PLC emerged as the top gainer on Friday with a 3.09% increase in its share price. Clothing retail firm JD Sports Fashion PLC and wireless telecommunications services company Vodafone Group PLC also witnessed significant gains, with their shares rising by 2.77% and 2.62% respectively. Pershing Square Holdings Ltd. and Rentokil Initial PLC concluded the list of top five gainers, as their stocks increased by 2.49% and 1.67% respectively.

Top Losers

On the other hand, Entain PLC, a gambling industries company, experienced the largest decrease among the FTSE 100 constituents on Friday. Its shares dropped by 3.45%. Food retail firm Ocado Group PLC and hotels company Whitbread PLC also faced losses, with their shares falling by 3.40% and 2.39% respectively. International Distribution Services PLC and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC rounded out the list of top five losers, as their stocks shed 2.07% and 1.97% respectively.

Currency and Commodity Updates

The pound saw a slight decline against the dollar, down by 0.25% at $1.2675, and also depreciated by 0.33% against the euro, standing at €1.1644. Brent crude fell by 0.6%, reaching $78.63, while the yield on the 10-year gilt decreased to 3.933%.
